Who is Donald Trump?
By Kevin Hudson
Fame, fortune, and publicity. Donald Trump is said to be the living embodiment of these words. From his rallies, to his conferences, he has gained quite the reputation. But behind all the press, media, and news who is Donald Trump?
Donald John Trump was born the sibling of four other kids all raised in Queens, New York. He is the son of wealthy business man, Frederick Trump. Donald Trump was sent to the New York Military Academy when he was just thirteen years old. He graduated from the school in 1964, and soon attended Fordham University in the following year. Following in his father’s footsteps, he also participated in real estate development after his graduation in 1968. Trump's father was a real estate developer who had made a sizable sum of money. When his father died in 1999, Donald Trump inherited a large amount of his father's fortune.
Seeing potential in New York, Trump supported many projects in the state. This was the start to his long running empire which is still going strong to this day, cementing him as a figurehead of the industry and market as a whole. Facing many close calls with bankruptcy in his various casinos and attractions, his wealth was almost completely lost in the 1980s. From this point, he bounced back from this bankruptcy and had a higher net worth than ever since the early 2000s. This resulted in laying off a lot of his workers, one of the most commonly brought up issues when discussing him.
Donald Trump is considered to be one of America’s most controversial candidates, as his opinions have almost no similarities to previous Republican candidates or party members. Donald’s main platform issues are immigration, and foreign policy. Many people are often harsh on him for his sometimes hypocritical nature, and viewpoint on gun control, yet he has garnered millions of fans ever since the first Republican Convention.
Joined by Mike Pence, current governor of Indiana, Donald Trump is working towards decreasing taxes, considering deportation. Donald Trump is aiming for a stronger and more centralized government, and while some of his means of getting to this centralized country have been criticized, Donald Trump is one of America’s most diverse and unique candidates.
Some people hate him, and others love him, but if he does become the president, he’s going big with it. This is Donald Trump’s main motive, to go large. From his business, to his campaign, this motto stands, go big or go home.
